I Filmed Hogwarts in 360° Before VR Existed
Long before VR headsets, someone had to figure out how to put Hogwarts on a DVD in 360 degrees.
Michael Samstag produced the interactive 360° set tours for the first three Harry Potter DVDs with IPIX. He tells Dave McCauley how a little Oak Ridge, Tennessee imaging company landed the job, why the first film was shot on a Sony F900 at Leavesden Studios, why they switched to film, how they mapped every set tour one click at a time, and what it was like working alongside the cast and the animals (yes, including a golden eagle).
Plus: how a London film set really runs, and how he'd shoot the same project today.
Call Sheet Confidential is made by The Production Front, a Knoxville production and post team. Need a crew, an edit, or a finished film?
